Wellness

Wellness is becoming largely popular around the US with the boom of Yoga studios, health food stores, and organic products. But Liz Klug, co-owner and director at Yoga Sol, Columbia’s Community Yoga Center, believes that the mainstream health boom is more than just a trend.

“It is not a fad — it is very ancient and old,” she said. “… It is becoming popular because people are wising up about being preventative with their health.”

Klug defines holistic health or wellness as looking at the whole person including their physical, emotional and psychological well-being. She also said community connection is important.

Many Approaches

There are many approaches to holistic health. This is one of its strengths. Multiple approaches allow the person to engage and participate on his/her terms. This is a luxury in wellness that not available in a medical emergency. Hospitals, physicians, nurses and others often have limited options, resources, and time. Healthcare is not limited to medical emergencies, though. The article, “The business of wellness”, gave several wonderful examples like: yoga, nutrition, sound baths, green living, and mindfulness. The approaches can complement and improve health. Of course, consumers should always consult with their medical care team.

Perhaps most importantly, the holistic health providers in the article understand the need to work as a community. Working with other holistic health providers as well as medical providers, the community offers a spectrum of support. There is, unfortunately, plenty of illness to go around but not enough coordination.

An informed and engaged consumer (like You!) can create a holistic health “cocktail” unique to his/her needs and interests. There are so many providers willing to help you! Perhaps you are interested in mindfulness? Or acupuncture? Or better nutrition? The list goes on and on.

Lupus and your gut microbiome

Lupus and the Gut Microbiome

The podcast explores the relationship between lupus and gut microbiome, emphasizing how gut health may influence autoimmune responses in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Research indicates that dietary changes, particularly the Mediterranean diet, and strategies like probiotics could potentially improve SLE management by modulating gut bacteria, although more studies are needed.

Health is like a three-legged stool and optimal health requires all three. HealthCare Too recognizes this and always promotes items to help with Mind, Body, and Spirit.
