Sauna Bathing Reduces Blood Pressure
More research has arrived highlighting the benefits of saunas. In this article sauna bathing reduces blood pressure as well as elevates the heart rate. This relaxing therapy has a history of benefits, according to the article, that include reducing stress and relieving joint discomfort.
The ancient Finnish tradition has stuck around for a reason.
Relaxing in the hot, steamy temperatures of a sauna is a unique feeling that can leave you feeling lighter and stress-free. The mental benefits are rivaled only by the incredible physical effects of this traditional Scandinavian practice. Recent research has confirmed what many have suspected: sauna bathing can reduce blood pressure, improves vascular function, and can even increase heart rate to produce effects similar to a medium-intensity workout.
Researchers from the University of Eastern Finland published studies in the Journal of Human Hypertension and the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology on their new findings. In an experimental setting, they tested the effects of a 30 minute sauna session on 100 participants. Blood pressure in the participants was found to be lower – even staying lower up to 30 minutes after their sauna session. The researchers also noted that there were indicators of vascular compliance in the subjects, or the ability for blood vessels to expand and contract in response to pressure changes.
